The Kurrajong Hospital Society held its first annual Cabaret Ball there, and the Richmond RSL Ball was held in November of that year. The NSW Spastic Center also held its annual dance at the centre. In the 1960s, swimming lessons were held at Camp Mackay.

In October 1945, the NSW Federation of Police Citizens' Boys' Clubs bought lot 277, 32 acres and adjoining lot 279, from John Joseph O'Neill of Currajong for £740. O'Neill purchased the property in 1937 as a garden block under the provisions of the Closer Settlement Act (1914).

In November of that year, the club won a bid to buy 279 units from Crown for £700. Finally, in 1946, 275 acres of the adjacent 27 acres were added to the field property at a cost of £700.

Run by Constable Percy Thomas Stevens, secretary of the Balmain Club, the camps regularly host around 120 boys from various locations during school holidays and long weekends. The club also took permitted ownership of a 47 acre block known as Section 279 with long frontage to Little Weeny Creek.

The club was able to make several improvements to the property, including installing a septic system. In 1945, the club asked the Colo Shire Council if they considered relinquishing control of the reserve for the sole use of the pitch.

This was not agreed with the board, but the club's reserve use agreements continued for several years. I recently had a very pleasant visit to the Kurrajong Police Boys Camp, which by the way is a small town built on 130 hectares of beautiful high and rich land.

This is a rest home for boys from all over the city. About 130 boys are accommodated at a time, they are taken from each suburb in turn, and a large bus takes them from the city to their destination.
